How to Help!

I am also proud to be Chilote (Darwin's Fox)!...but I'm disappearing

According to the World Wildlife Fund, Darwin's Foxes are an umbrella species, meaning by protecting the primary temperate forests where they live, the entire ecosystem can be preserved!

This includes plants, animals, fungi, bacteria...everything is protected and the ecosystem doesn't collapse.  But how does this affect you?

Not protecting Darwin's Fox would reduce biodiversity, which would reduce ecosystem services.

Ecosystem services are processes such as pollination, water purification, soil fertility, or flood protection that are provided by nature that support human life!

We can't imitate these processes, so it's better if we just conserve, rather than try to fix the problems we create!

Unfortunately, many people do not realize Darwin's Fox even exists, so there are few organizations that are working to conserve the species.

The World Wildlife Fund does take donations, in which you receive an adoption kit, but this type of donation doesn't feel personal...

However, if you choose to donate to the WWF, you are "adopting" one of these foxes!  You're adoption kit includes a cute, fluffy stuffed fox, an adoption certificate, a photograph, and a gift bag.  There are different levels of donation, so anything helps this species!

If you really care about the Darwin's Fox, I would suggest creating your own organization, since there doesn't seem to be one at the moment, at least one specific to this species!

And even if you can’t donate or sponsor a Darwin’s fox, spread the word so we can stop this wonderful species from becoming extinct!  I fully intend of asking my parents for a Darwin's Fox sponsorship for my Christmas present!  :)

Long live Darwin's Fox!
